Our Doctors
Dr. Ricks and Dr. Atwal have extensive experience evaluating and managing eye health and prescribing customized eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Our doctors use the latest technologies to provide comprehensive eye exams, accurate prescriptions and the best treatments for each patient’s needs. Dr. Atwal and Dr. Ricks are both originally from Northern California and received their Optometry Doctorate degrees from UC Berkeley.
Dr. Paul S. Atwal, O.D.
Dr. Atwal received his Doctorate of Optometry from UC Berkeley. He had professional externships at Tripler Army hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii and at a large ophthalmology group in New York. He has served populations with high prevalence of ocular trauma, glaucoma, cataract, neurological and psychosocial disorders. Dr. Atwal is interested in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease as well as the prescription of customized eyeglasses and contact lenses. He also has extensive experience providing pediatric eye care and enjoys working with kids and parents.
Born and raised in Northern California, Dr. Atwal grew up working on his family’s farm in Tracy, Ca. On his days off, he enjoys farming Cling Peaches and Almonds.
Dr. Jeffrey S. Ricks, O.D.
Dr. Ricks received his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of California at Berkeley. He has worked extensively in cataract and Lasik co-management, as well as monitoring patients for diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, dry eye and ocular infection. Dr. Ricks has particular interest in Computer Vision Syndrome, including the use of contact lenses and specialty glasses to enhance the comfort and ergonomics of regular computer use.
He is also a member of the Discovery Bay Lions club, where he assists in the club’s mission to help those who are visually impaired. His passion is helping his patients to understand the best ways to care for their eyes and preserve their vision. Dr. Ricks has been serving Discovery Bay for the past five years using the newest exam and optical technologies to provide his patients with the best vision care available.
A Bay Area native and an avid sports fan, when Dr. Ricks isn’t working or watching sports he enjoys hiking and traveling with his family.
